Work by Ermanno Spera
In the inner panel (oil on panel), the soul takes centre stage in man’s journey towards self-discovery,
culminating in self-acceptance.
The deliberate contrast of placing it on a coloured canvas serves to highlight an individual’s journey
between life on the outside (the canvas with coloured squares) and what happens within them.
Everyday life forms part of their context, which remains outwardly unaware of the inner conflict, where
the soul struggles daily to achieve harmony.

NOT AS MUCH AS I SEE MYSELF
I see you as if I were looking at the sea
like the tower of Palo
worn down but still standing
my nature ranges between heaven and earth
your eyes are inside mine
they carry our bed between the current of a river
the one that welcomes our stones
even our feathers
the word love does not exist
it belongs to the verse of a poem
to the silence of the moon that moves everything
I follow my cracks
those on the top of a mountain
those that filter a ray of sunshine
so that in the darkest moments
you remember who I am
in a sky that advances demands for a kiss in the middle of the night
between the pages of a diary yet to be written
of a groom and a bride up there on an altar
I see you
more than I see myself
elsewhere
in the sea
